What's Happening At All Saints' This
Summer
While we will take a break this summer from
some activities and programming to rejuvenate, much will be happening at All
Saints’ this summer. Here’s a preview of some of the coming
attractions:
-
We will continue to have two services
on Sunday mornings, with Brunch prepared by our Family Groups
and served between services (beginning June 21). Be sure to worship (and
eat) with us during the summer. Henry High will facilitate an adult
Sunday morning class in which Robert Capon’s book The Fingerprints
of God will be discussed. This offering will also begin on June
21 and will be held between the services.
-
We will launch monthly luncheon offerings
for seniors and special get-togethers for young adults.
These gatherings will be opportunities for people in the parish to
connect with each other and the church in new and different ways.
-
Bible School will be held July
6-10. Called “Camp E.D.G.E.” this promises to be a grand time for
3 year olds – 6th grade. Maribeth Kirkpatrick and Marrion Winders will
co-chair this event—see either of them if you’d like to volunteer!
-
Much will be happening with Catechesis
of the Good Shepherd. Level II adult formation training begins June
26. Tommie Moore will participate in that training opportunity to become
a certified catechist in Level II. Mary Howard King, Kamme Riddle and
Stacy Carroll will also be working on their Level III certification
beginning this summer (and into 2010). Plans are also underway to open
the Level III atrium for our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders in the fall. This
summer materials for Level III will be created which means much
painting, carving, sculpting, drawing, etc. will occur, while the room
will be transformed into a space more conducive to Catechesis. We will
also be adding new works in Level II and redoing a few works in Level I.
There are many, many opportunities for the parish to be involved in this
process.
-
Recruitment and training of teachers for
7th – 12th grade Sunday School will soon begin, as will
evaluation of a new curriculum for those classes.
-
We hope to have a couple of movie
nights during the summer, complete with popcorn and soft drinks. If
you have favorite movies you’d like to watch on the “Big Screen” (soon
to be installed in the Parish Hall), drop me a note via email. Better
yet, join the All Saints’ Group on Facebook and then post a
comment about a movie you’d like to see.
-
Planning is underway for Wednesday
Night dinners and the programming that goes with it. If you have
program or menu ideas, please pass them my way.
-
On June 6, the Sr. EYC will take a
much-anticipated canoe trip down the Tishomingo. It promises to
be a grand time for all out on the river.
-
Saints’ Brew will continue its
regular schedule, offering a hot breakfast for all who drop in Monday
through Friday mornings from 7:30 to 9:00. If you’ve never volunteered
to help with this worthwhile outreach program, the summer would an ideal
time to drop in and offer a helping hand and a warm smile.
-
The newly formed Columbarium Task
Force has begun its work and has several meetings scheduled over the
course of the summer. It will make its report (and accompanying
recommendations) to the Vestry at the Vestry’s September meeting.
-
Several children from All Saints’ will
attend Camp Bratton-Green camping sessions this summer. Room for
additional campers in most sessions exists; if your son, daughter,
grandchild, great grandchild, neighbor or child of a friend wants to go
to camp, call the church office and we’ll gladly help make that happen.
As you can tell, much is happening at your
parish church. Be on the lookout for details about these and other offerings
during the summer. I hope your summer is safe and that you can take the time
the time to rest and rejuvenate. Most importantly, I’ll see you in church
on Sundays.
Shalom,
Paul+
